Packs Essay

Why do we move in packs? Wolves, fish, sheep, almost all animals live in groups for safety, warmth, and food. But why is it that kids are the same way? Students at school and in society will naturally form into packs, usually made of 3 to 5 people. They don’t want to stand out, so they try and blend into the crowd. And yet, there is always that odd one out, the one who doesn’t fit in to any of the groups. They are laughed at, made fun of brought down by the sheer mass of people beating them. Why do people do this, especially if the group they are in does bad things like smoking and cheating and stealing? Why is it that the one who had the courage to get out o the loop is the one laughed at? It’s because of peer pressure. Peer pressure tells them to stay together, no matter what happens.
Peer pressure is the main reason that people stay in bad groups and relationships. It’s always the cutest guy in school asked you out, you have to go out with him even if he is a drug addict. You have to stay with the cheerleaders even if they keep you feeling like sewage. You can’t just walk away from these things. Everything is complex and organized in groups like this, so organized that if you tried to work your way to the top, people will know right away to push you back down and even lower than you were before. That hot guy can do whatever he wants, and your friends will be ignorant and keep saying it will get better, that it’s just a bump in the road to a good relationship.
This is why you should choose your groups wisely. Don’t get sucked into something you don’t want to stay in forever. Never judge by the title of cheerleader, hottest, or sportiest. Always look a little closer to the people behind the titles. They cheerleaders could be the nicest girls in the school, or they could shove you in a pie of rotten garbage if you are a threat to their title. Always observe groups before choosing, and remember that there is no shame in being alone for a while. Or for the whole school year.

  1. Good job with writing about this issue of peer pressure but you should expand a little
