Unnecessary Tears

You’re the prettiest girl in school. Tears stream down your face. Everyone wants to know why you’re crying. Could it be, they whisper, that her current boyfriend finally broke up with her? Could it be that her best friend and her had a huge fight? Or could it be that she broke a nail? If it was any of these reasons, she was being stupid. Nothing at school is worth crying about. Boys, friends, grades, nails, hair, anything. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn’t see the real things in life to cry about, like a lost family member. As a general rule, the girls that cry for these reasons are shallow and only really care about themselves. This isn’t always true, but majority of the time it is.
What causes girls to find it necessary to cry about the smallest things? Is it the way she was raised, or is it the friends she has picked to hang out with at school? If her parents are to blame, how can you teach kids differently, that school life isn’t the most important thing? Perhaps they could show the kids that beauty is on the inside, not the outside, and that they can have friends that don’t care about the outside, only the personality inside. Maybe it’s possible to trust that your kid will have enough common sense to think that crying over boys won’t help anything. But what if you happen to have a kid that thinks like this? Will you have to have talks with her every few days about how that one boy is not your true love and it’s ok to let him go? Will you have to ban dating until a certain age? Maybe they will all work, but maybe none will work.
In the end, you should just hope that you don’t have a girl that thinks like this. You should hope that your daughter will have enough common sense to know what is worth crying about.
