Sentence Prompt

Author's note: This piece was to symbolize a few things. The first was that every life must end, no matter how hard people try to keep you here. The second was to say that even though dreams can lead to answers, sometimes you just can't use those answers.

It was a wonderful, blissful dream.
Sunn caught the sweet smell of water lilies on the wind. She needed those for her sick patient. She followed the soothing scent, pausing occasionally to smell the breeze. Water lilies held a certain power to the Healers of her tribe because the strongest goddess, Lila, who created the tribe, gave the flowers her blessing because they had saved her father from the verge of death. Now it was all Sunn could do to get to the flowers as soon as possible to save her friend Night. He had fallen sick from eating too many dandelions, which caused good fortune if taken in small bits, but are poisonous if you ate too much. A forest was up ahead, and the lilies scent was more powerful than ever.  She bolted through the forest with the speed of a rabbit and the light-footedness of a deer. The autumn sun cast a golden beam on the forest floor, and made Sunn feel empowered to move on. She saw a break in the trees, and a lake in the valley below. She slowed down, knowing the cure for Night wasn’t far away. Panting, she started down the slope in pursuit of the cure. Then she stopped dead. Her breath caught as she saw Night dancing around the meadow, sunlight dancing in his life filled eyes. Sunn couldn’t believe it. Night was blind, and yet the sunlight reflected in his light hazel eyes. He threw back his head and laughed, knowing that he could see. Sunn forced herself to move toward the lake. This was an illusion, she didn’t want to get distracted. But Night grabbed her hand and pulled her away from his cure, spinning her around and laughing. Sunn hated to do it, but she tore herself away from the new Night and bolted to the lake. She grabbed the lilies as soon as she felt a shake on her shoulder. She sat up straight, hitting her head against Twilight’s, who was trying to get her up. “Sunn, I think Night might die,” Her eyes wandered to Sunn’s hand, where she was gripping the lilies tightly. “Quickly! Get those to Night, before Lila takes him for good!” Her shout roused Sunn,  as she sprang up and started mashing up the lilies for Night. She hurried over to his part of the tent. She opened the flap, and her heart sank. Night was laying down, looking fast asleep. But her eyes went to his motionless chest, which confirmed her fear ever since she woke up. Now she knew why Night was laughing in her dream. Now she knew why he could see. Sunn lowered her head, and a single tear fell from her face. It landed on her dead friend’s chest. She knelt down, and used her two fingers to close his eyes, knowing somewhere beyond here, he could finally see.
