In Avalon: Child of the Dark Prophecy, it starts out by being written in two different perspectives. The first is written by a boy named Tamwyn, and the other is a priestess with a dark past, name Elli. Elli is soon imformed by the High Priestess that she needs a mentor to learn around the compound. And none other was her mentor than the next High Priestess, Llynia, a whiny brat who always has to get her way. Elli tries to get out of it, but the High Priestess is firm. Before they set out on a quest to find the Lady of the Lake, the High Priestess tells Elli a prophecy. The one line that she remembers clearly is something about a
'true heir of Merlin.' A few hours after they leave, they run into Tamwyn and a hoolah, some inferior human race that finds joy in almost getting killed. Within a minute of them meeting, Tamwyn placed a wrong foot down and breaks Elli's favorite possession, a harp carved by her father. Even though Elli and Llynia don't like it, Tamwyn joins them as a packhorse, because they lost their horses. Tamwyn eventually points them in the right direction, both to the Lady and to something more sinister.
When they arrive at the Lady's lair, she informs them that their quest was not yet done. The stars making up the constellation called Merlin's Staff are going out, and the drought is the work of an evil sorcerer. They now must travel to High Brycillia, where a geyser is being trapped by a dam built by slaves. They must find a way to free the slaves, release the water, and stop the sorcerer before he gets what he wants, Merlin's actual staff, which could produce something powerful that he needs. Making their way there isn't easy, but with help of an elf maiden and an old friend of Tam's, they defeat the sorcerer. Yet, unfortunately, they find that their work is not done.
